Shipping Delay Disclaimer
We have been closely monitoring the coronavirus outbreak in China and the restricted travel to Hubei Province. Many esidents in Wuhan have not yet returned to work.
China has 288 million migrant workers which represent more than a third of the workforce. Migrant workers who left to return to their homes in the countryside for the Chinese New Year (CNY) are currently unable to return to work due to quarantines and the restrictions on travel. Many companies and factories will experience additional delays in production due to these labor shortages.
Wuhan port remains closed; there are other ports in operation around China but as the virus is spreading many will have limited operations or can be closed.
Ships departing from China on or after February 1, 2020 which are on short hauls will not be allowed to enter ports until 14 days have elapsed. At this time it only affects short hauls since the majority of freight on Trans-pacific eastbound or European lanes are in transit more than 14 days.
Until further notice, there will be significant impacts on manufacturing on everything from apparel to appliances to furniture and more.
The ripple effect is already having impacts across the global economy. Manufacturing supply chains are being impacted due to the outbreak of the virus. Please take this into consideration as you place your order and communicate with your clients accordingly.
