What comes to mind when thinking about decorating your home? Well, if you’re anything like I was before becoming an Interior Designer, you may have spent countless hours visualizing what your space could look like. You start to envision the potential your home has, yet not quite sure how to execute the idea with concrete decisions, or the things that need to take place in order to get things done. Overwhelmed with frustration, you realize that you just may need the help of an expert with a trained eye. This is when you should consider hiring an interior designer to help you get things up and going with your project once and for all. Let me start by introducing you to the many advantages designers bring when consulting with one for their services in the beginning stages.

In-Home Consultations

An In-Home Consultation can prove to be very informative for your design plans. It’s especially a first crucial step when considering a full-on home project. What is great about this informative In-Home Consultation is that it gives you an idea of what to expect when working with a designer for a full-on design project. When asked to go in for an In-Home Consultation, we look at various aspects of the home that include scale, layout, natural lighting, and other architectural elements. However, we also take the time to really get to know what your preferences are so that we can narrow down the specifics and therefore, design a space that will be both beautiful and functional for you and your family.

Keep in mind that the consult does not always have to be a complete renovation to meet with an expert; a consult will give you peace of mind and a general idea of what design fees you’re looking at if you choose to move forward with full design service. However, whether you choose to work on your design plans on your own or with a designer in mind, the advantage of consulting with one may be just what you need to kick start any of your design needs or home decor plans at an affordable price. Consultations usually consist of 1 to 2 hours long and can be geared towards giving you answers to some of your burning design questions, or challenges you may be faced within your home, and therefore may be valuable tools and suggestions that you need to implement the design all on your own if you so choose to.

Floor Plans

If you’re thinking about a complete home renovation or a space plan for a small business, a floor plan can really pay off and come very much in hand when communicating with your contractors what it is you would like for the outcome of your new space to be. Sometimes, we have a vision but don’t always look at it as a whole, and end up having to make decisions on the spot that we may end up regretting later. So it’s always best to consult with a professional beforehand since we can tend to overlook many things in construction that are very important and key to the success of a well-designed space.

So don’t hesitate to reach out to your local go-to Interior Designer to help you with the layout of your vision, so that you can be confident to proceed with your project and know that it will be well implemented with ease from the get-go. An Interior Designer will give you the stamp of approval you will need before you start making walls or knocking them down permanently. They will make sure to cover all the technical things that are easily missed and draft plans such as lighting plans, electrical plans, furniture plans, and other construction documents you would need in a renovation project.

Styling

So when it comes to Interior Design work, what stands out the most in my opinion, in any finished designed space are the finishing touches. The beautiful balance that art and accessories bring between color, unity, and variety is what brings harmony throughout the space and makes you go wow! Everyone possesses a different style but it can be quite tricky at times to really nail it. So you definitely don’t want to go without the “styling” session for your home without consulting with your interior designer if you are not that savvy with home decor.

When consulting for this service, ask for their “styling” service, keeping in mind that every designer works differently and not all will offer the same service without a complete project. It’s definitely a service well worth checking out if and when possible. They can save you hours if not weeks worth of design work involved when searching for the right accessories. Think about it…you can literally spend hours browsing the store aisles and yet find it so hard to pinpoint what direction to take having so many wonderful options at hand. Trust me, the “styling” session with an Interior Designer is what will give your home that unique yet personal touch that will surely make a statement in just the right places to give you that eye candy for days.

Redesign

Okay, so let’s say you have a fully furnished home, or maybe a few rooms that are already furnished from previous years. You’ve done most of the legwork and have almost everything you need and love in place and in great condition, but for some reason, the layout or home decor is just not cutting it for you, and you can’t quite figure out or put your finger on why it just does not look right. In this case, you just may need a room refresh. You could most definitely consult with your local Interior Designer with a service most designers offer known as the “Redesign” or “Room Refresh”.

The advantage of this service is that your Interior Designer can come out and meet with you to evaluate your home and basically show you the ropes using her keen eye and expertise. This may require a consultation to formulate a plan using most of your belongings in your home so that it can be repurposed in another more useful or decorative way. This basically means shopping your home to see what furnishings and/or accessories you currently possess so that it can be best utilized for the “room refresh”.  The “room refresh” will not always be limited to just your belongings. If and when appropriate, the designer might suggest a few other key components to purchase that would definitely spruce up your home.

E-Design/Online Design

Perhaps you may not have considered the fact that many designers now days offer online design packages until you stumbled upon this blog post. Online design works out perfectly fine, especially when you enjoy “do-it-yourself” projects or someone who likes to have some control in the design process. On the other hand, most of us don’t always have the right budgets to completely renovate a space, so you may hold back from reaching out to a designer, but I’m here to tell you not to. You can still most definitely benefit from this service since it’s at a much more affordable price to implement a design plan you desire.

The plus side to this service is the design plan can be implemented all on your own.

You can choose to do one room at a time or whichever way you’d like, which can also bring much satisfaction as things come together nicely. So you basically get a customized plan tailored to your needs, the only real difference is that communication is all online. You can expect an “Inspiration” or “Concept” board that will guide you through. However, you do want to always check what your E-Design Package includes to see if it meets your expectations.

Consulting with an Interior Designer may sound daunting at first thought. You may have never worked with one before and therefore, have never considered the services or options they may have to offer. However big or small your project may be, always consult with them, and you can be rest assured that they will be more than happy to assist you. So, will you be thinking about hiring an interior designer for your next project? It would be to your advantage when overwhelmed with decisions and frustration.
